Film Distributors

A distributor is a company or individual responsible for releasing films to the public either theatrically or for home viewing. You will mostly find distributors in a cinema festival which happens every once a year. This is when producers get their chance to show of their movie to distrubutors and if it appeals to them they will agree on releasing the movie to the public which then makes the producer succesful.

For my movie Babysiccors I would want Dogwoof to distribute my film because Dogwoof show great films it a company that can release your movie on pop cinema. It also has its own DVD shop and it helps filmakers to promote and sell their films globally through their network of partners.

Many of their films are now available to rent or buy on itunes. Dogwoof Indie is our hybrid distribution model and was setup so that filmakers can get a better deal. The Dogwoof Production Fund is our initiative to support the production of feature film Documentaries.

BFI Film Fund

The BFI wants to support emerging filmmaking talent and provide them with the opportunities to demonstrate their potential to be feature filmmakers with the ability to entertain and engage UK audiences. The BFI  supports filmmakers in the UK who are emerging or world class and capable of creating distinctive and entertaining work. I think the BFI will be available to for funding my film.

BabyScissors Feedbacks!

My partner and I did a presentation infront of our class about the ideas we have come up with for our horror movie opening. We wanted to be different by not having a typical establishing shot of a hauted looking house at the beginning and start with the door. We also discussed that the storyline will be more interesting if we didn't have loads of sudden shocks at the beginning. We named our movie BabyScissors because the story is based  on a man who claims he has children that needs babysitting but really he's a serial killer and murders young girls and also has an obsession with womans hair.

Whilst explaining this to our class mates, they gave us really good feedback. They asked when in the opening  is this going to happen, and if it is during the night time or day time. We have been told that it will be better doing this during the night time because thats the usual time when babysitters are needed. We have also been asked where would we find a white male to be our serial killer, my partner and I have discussed this and  we have some people that might be able to become this character.

Overall I am confident that our horror movie opening will be successful becasue the majority of the class are using a children for their scarey movie and we want ours to be different.. We don't want it to be a typical scaret movie like The Omen ... or The Ring ...

What I Look For In A Scary Film........

What do I expect to see in a horror film or a thriller film?........hmmmmmmmmmmm.....
Well every time I get ready to watch a scary movie I usually have a pillow covering my face because the first 5mins of a scary movie always tends to be a SHOCK!! . Some one gets killed very terribly and theirs blood everywhere and from nowhere something comes out with a big scare and usually that creates loud music to scare people. These are the shots that I expect to see in a scary movie:
  • Establishing shot
  • Point Of View shot
  • High angle shot
  • Close up shot
  • Reverse shot
  • Medium shot
Also these are the elements and sound effects I expect to see in a scary movie:
  • Child lauging
  • Heart beat
  • Clock ticking
  • Screaming
  • Hard beat ( music getting louder and louder, keeping the audience suspense)
  • A house
  • Silence
  • Clown laughing
  • Telephone ringing
  • Rain drops
  • A Storm

My Survey Findings

Base on my survey findings I have found out that most teenagers prefered watching horror movies over thriller and most of the people were girls and boys. I have also found out that most teenagers watch scarey movie at home online or over there friends house. Some watchs it on TV and small percentage watchs it at the cinema.
I also found out that a lot of young children like to combine scarey with comedy or action. Most boys said that they would like to see scarey with actions and most girls have said that they rather see scarey movies that have comedy.

This has gave me ideas to focuse on doing a horror film and maybe combine it with another theme.
