BabyScissors. My Jelly Babies Film credit ...

Film Credits

Normanlly when I am watching a movie I never pay attention to the film credits that come on at the beginning... I learn't that eevry movie thats been out names the actors/actresses involved in the movie and the people involved behind the scences. This includes ..
  • Producer
  • Director
  • Actors/actresses
  • Costumer makers
  • Name of the production company
  • Casting
  • Photography
  • Written by and etc
In some movies, they put the actors and actresses names first to get the audience attention and in this might be because of 'Marquee names' and sometimes they put the director name at  the beginning and the end so the audience can rememeber. This also helps the director to get known.
In lesson we saw the opening of 'vergo' and 'seven'. they were completly different from each other. 'Vergo' is an old movie and 'seven' is more 21st century and its starring 'Brad Pitt', he has a whole screen with just his name... because hes a famous actor.  This is an example of my timeline for 'vergo' and 'seven'

Babyscissors: First editing

After finally filming everything, I had to prepare myself for the difficult bit of the film making.... EDITING!!
I made sure we included some of the shots in our horror movie opening like high angle shots, low angle shots and etc..
whilst editing I had to put everything in order after importing the clips on the Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 so it can be easy for me. Some of the other clips I used as extras just incase I need a few bits in this. I had to cut a lot of bits because some of the actions wasn't needed and I needed the opening to fit in for two minutes only. This was quite hard becasue when putting the clips in order I discovered that I went over time so therefore I need to cut some bits to avoid going over time.

I also had to make sure the video was flowing right.. by that I mean when using a 'match of action' I had to make sure it look realistic.

Overall I was amazed I didn't struggle to much and I did managed to make my horror movie look realistic and scary.  However I didn't get to finish everything I still need to add effects and sound . I also need to add a 'split screen shot'.

My Two Ways Of Marketing ...

To make my movie successful, I would market my film by making my own website where it can advertise my movie in DVD and in bluray. It will also provide the trailers for people to check out the movie and a gallery section where you can see some images of the character playing in the movie. This will build attention and excitement from the audience. The website will also include downloading, where you can downlaod screensavers. It will also provide accessories like key rings and book marks and etc that you will be able to buy online.

The secound thing I will use to market my film is posters on the buses, bustops and billboards because normally the majority of people are travelling to work or school so they will be able to spot this and will want to check up on it online. This also attracts attention because while people are waiting for the bus, they can look at the poster and will remember it and want to watch it.

Feedbacks

Whilst presenting our storyboard to our class we got mixed feedbacks, most were really good feedbacks , we manage to use a varitey of camera shots, such as long shot, high angle shot, low angle shot and two shots in one. We also have been told that we should add more music in the background to make it more interesting and not to let the conversations in our clip drag on during the opening of the movie. We also need to make our play abit longer, only 2mins so therefore we need to add more bits in it.

The Three things I would like my distributor to spend money on!

BabySciccors

To make my scarey movie appealing towards the audience I will have to think of the best ways to reach my target audience. I would like my distributor to advertise my movie ' Babysciccors' the best way possible.
I would want my distributor to buy 'posters', the traditional UK size of 30"x40",landscape oreintation,  on Buses, billboards and in cinemas  because by showing images of the movie will then attract the audience attention whilst they are travelling, most likely people that go out a lot and don't have a TV at home. Also 'Posters also captures its stars ( marque names) and the theme/genre so it will be clear for people who are interested or not.

The secound way I would want my  distributor to spend on is 'trailers' because this gives a quicktime upcoming movie which shows all the trilling parts in the movie which will excite the auidience and make them want to watch the movie after seeing a trailer. A trailer will be a really good use because personally for me to hear about a movie coming out I always have to see the trailer to see if it looks good. It also makes people want to tell others about the trailer and can create'word of mouth'. The trailer also includes important details like the actors/actresses that are playing in it, the genre and when is it coming out.

Lastly the third way I would want my distributor to consider to spend on is 'online and mobile' because mostly eevryone usesthe Interent all the time when working, at home or at school. you will always need to use the Internet. This is the same reason for a mobile phone, everyone has a mobile phone. This is an advantage becasue then by having snippets or teaser images online, seeding interest among fans this will then engage the core audience fully and make them remember that the movie is releasing so go and watch it if your interested.

Film Distributors

A distributor is a company or individual responsible for releasing films to the public either theatrically or for home viewing. You will mostly find distributors in a cinema festival which happens every once a year. This is when producers get their chance to show of their movie to distrubutors and if it appeals to them they will agree on releasing the movie to the public which then makes the producer succesful.

For my movie Babysiccors I would want Dogwoof to distribute my film because Dogwoof show great films it a company that can release your movie on pop cinema. It also has its own DVD shop and it helps filmakers to promote and sell their films globally through their network of partners.

Many of their films are now available to rent or buy on itunes. Dogwoof Indie is our hybrid distribution model and was setup so that filmakers can get a better deal. The Dogwoof Production Fund is our initiative to support the production of feature film Documentaries.

BFI Film Fund

The BFI wants to support emerging filmmaking talent and provide them with the opportunities to demonstrate their potential to be feature filmmakers with the ability to entertain and engage UK audiences. The BFI  supports filmmakers in the UK who are emerging or world class and capable of creating distinctive and entertaining work. I think the BFI will be available to for funding my film.

BabyScissors Feedbacks!

My partner and I did a presentation infront of our class about the ideas we have come up with for our horror movie opening. We wanted to be different by not having a typical establishing shot of a hauted looking house at the beginning and start with the door. We also discussed that the storyline will be more interesting if we didn't have loads of sudden shocks at the beginning. We named our movie BabyScissors because the story is based  on a man who claims he has children that needs babysitting but really he's a serial killer and murders young girls and also has an obsession with womans hair.

Whilst explaining this to our class mates, they gave us really good feedback. They asked when in the opening  is this going to happen, and if it is during the night time or day time. We have been told that it will be better doing this during the night time because thats the usual time when babysitters are needed. We have also been asked where would we find a white male to be our serial killer, my partner and I have discussed this and  we have some people that might be able to become this character.

Overall I am confident that our horror movie opening will be successful becasue the majority of the class are using a children for their scarey movie and we want ours to be different.. We don't want it to be a typical scaret movie like The Omen ... or The Ring ...

What I Look For In A Scary Film........

What do I expect to see in a horror film or a thriller film?........hmmmmmmmmmmm.....
Well every time I get ready to watch a scary movie I usually have a pillow covering my face because the first 5mins of a scary movie always tends to be a SHOCK!! . Some one gets killed very terribly and theirs blood everywhere and from nowhere something comes out with a big scare and usually that creates loud music to scare people. These are the shots that I expect to see in a scary movie:
  • Establishing shot
  • Point Of View shot
  • High angle shot
  • Close up shot
  • Reverse shot
  • Medium shot
Also these are the elements and sound effects I expect to see in a scary movie:
  • Child lauging
  • Heart beat
  • Clock ticking
  • Screaming
  • Hard beat ( music getting louder and louder, keeping the audience suspense)
  • A house
  • Silence
  • Clown laughing
  • Telephone ringing
  • Rain drops
  • A Storm

My Survey Findings

Base on my survey findings I have found out that most teenagers prefered watching horror movies over thriller and most of the people were girls and boys. I have also found out that most teenagers watch scarey movie at home online or over there friends house. Some watchs it on TV and small percentage watchs it at the cinema.
I also found out that a lot of young children like to combine scarey with comedy or action. Most boys said that they would like to see scarey with actions and most girls have said that they rather see scarey movies that have comedy.

This has gave me ideas to focuse on doing a horror film and maybe combine it with another theme.

My First Film

As a group we recorded a short play using all the shots we have learn't and created a play base on happiness, which was really funny. When we finally finished we had to edit our play, the hard part! whilst doing this I did feel really confused at times but eventually started playing around and getting comfortable. I learn't how to cut some  bits of the clip that we didn't like by using the eraser button and adding effects such as blury and ghost effects which was really cool.

I also learn't how to put everything in order to make the actual play look more realistic, I have never done any editing before so it was something new!
